The Role The Contracts Manager will be responsible for managing the operational delivery of 3-4 live projects at any one time, ensuring they are completed safely, on schedule, and to budget. You will lead site teams, liaise with clients, and coordinate resources to ensure each scheme meets the company’s high standards. Key Responsibilities: • Oversee day-to-day site operations and monitor progress on all assigned projects. • Manage and report on project performance against programme and budget. • Maintain and develop strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams. • Produce monthly progress reports and performance updates for the Operations Director. • Arrange and coordinate labour, materials, and plant resources. • Ensure all works are delivered in line with health, safety, and quality standards. Candidate Requirements: • Proven experience as a Contracts Manager within the residential groundworks or civil engineering sector. • SMSTS certification (essential). • Strong leadership and communication skills. • Commercial awareness and ability to plan and deliver multiple projects simultaneously. • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across the East Midlands. All About the Role Based at our BCD Tubes site this important role reports to the Branch Manager; the purpose of this role is to manage all daily yard, warehousing & operational activities across the site, whilst driving process and operational efficiencies. To manage and coordinate all goods in and picking operations, ensuring, and improving levels of productivity, profitability and efficiency which meets the site’s business requirements. You’ll fully align all site operational activities with commercial goals, to deliver short and long-term business objectives, drive cultural change to deliver process efficiencies whilst improving health and safety, quality, and customer delivery performance. You’ll be an integral part of the site Leadership Team, playing a leading role in the strategic development and direction of the business. Duties Include : Ensure that operations, (including 3rd party workers or suppliers), are conducted in manner which fully complies with Barrett Steel Health and Safety, Quality, Environmental and Group policies, and all relevant legislative requirements. Supervise the Team Leaders and to continually achieve and wherever possible exceed productivity, customer service and quality target levels across the range of activities undertaken by the site. To develop a “safety-first” approach within Operations and embed a culture of continuous improvement. To ensure that a strong customer-focus is created throughout the site and sustained, through standardised application of lean techniques. To improve all yard /site processes from order receipt through to the fulfilment of customer deliverables. To drive organisational improvements at every level across both sites taking responsibility, and accountability for performance management of all relevant staff Ensure that all warehouse staff are working effectively, and site is maintained at the highest standard. Ensuring the operational capacity including, manning, processing and distribution, satisfies customer requirements both current and projected; that site operates effectively for storage and agreed goods in procedures to maintain the integrity of stock. Maintain and recommend improvements as necessary to the condition and performance of site. Maintain site security and protect assets to limit liability and minimise loss To step up and fill in for the Branch Manager during leave and oversee the other departments on site. All About You/Essential Skills Required You will have the passion, drive, and confidence to work within the business in a collaborative, creative way. A safety focused attitude and experience of managing safety, quality, and group policies. NEBOSH or IOSH managing safety qualification Previous experience in a similar management role within an Operational environment in a manufacturing or processing environment with demonstratable experience in manging people up to and inclusive of disciplinary processes. Have relevant management training and experience. Possess good written and verbal communication skills as well as IT based understanding Due to the nature of the role, although the core hours for this role are days, flexibility will be needed to work/support on all 3 operational shifts as and when needed.
