Job summaryThis is a full time substantive post. The post is for ten sessions per week of which, typically, seven will be for direct clinical care (DCC) and three for supporting professional activity (SPA), as specified in the Welsh Consultant contract.The post will have a commitment to Anaesthesia for theatre with a sub speciality interest in Airway management, Radiology and Upper GI AnaesthesiaThe remaining DCC sessions will be for General Anaesthesia, for a mix of elective lists which may include at least one fixed flexible session. This is open to negotiation depending on the interests of the successful candidate and the needs of the department. The seven DCC sessions equate to four (half day) Clinical Sessions and participation in the Consultant General/Obstetric on call rota.The on call requirement for this post is to join the General Anaesthetic & Obstetric on call rota. This is currently a 1:11 rota. Duties are to provide cover for emergency Anaesthesia for all surgical specialities including District General Hospital (DGH) level paediatrics. There is a separate Consultant on call rota for Critical Care.Main duties of the jobYour line manager will be the Lead Clinician of the Anaesthetics Department.You would be expected to contribute to Clinical and Educational activities within the department and assist in the supervision and teaching of the Departments Resident DoctorsTo contribute, to local Clinical Governance activities including Quality Improvement projects, Clinical Audit and Clinical Risk Initiatives.You will be expected to participate in an Annual Appraisal and work towards Revalidation as guided by the GMC. SPA time is allocated for this and the Health Board uses a computer based system for the Appraisal process.You will be required to co-operate with local management in the efficient running of services.Subject to the Terms and Conditions of Service you will be expected to observe policies and procedures of the Health Board, drawn up in consultation with the profession where they involve clinical matters.You will be expected to pursue local and national employment and personnel policies and procedures in the management of employees of the Health Board.The Anaesthetic Department has a cohesive and supportive approach.
