Job Description The Medical Assistant provides essential clinical and administrative support in a busy urgent care setting. This role focuses on delivering high-quality patient care by performing vital sign documentation, preparing patients and examination rooms, assisting physicians with procedures, and accurately maintaining electronic health records. The Medical Assistant helps ensure smooth daily operations, supports patient education and communication, and contributes to a clean, organized, and safe environment. Responsibilities • Perform and accurately document vital signs for patients prior to examinations and procedures., • Prepare patients for exams and procedures by explaining the process, ensuring comfort, and verifying necessary information., • Prepare examination rooms for use, ensuring they are clean, organized, properly stocked, and safe for patients and staff., • Provide direct patient care assistance to support daily clinical activities, including greeting patients, escorting them to rooms, and assisting with basic care needs., • Assist physicians and nurse practitioners during procedures by documenting medical history, case notes, and relevant clinical information., • Collect patient data in person and by phone, documenting patient concerns and symptoms clearly and accurately., • Relay instructions and care plans from the physician or nurse practitioner to the patient or authorized person in a clear and professional manner., • Enter messages and care provided into the electronic medical record (EMR) for physician or nurse practitioner review., • Take complete and accurate messages, route messages to the appropriate area, and ensure timely direction, order entry, and referral entry within the EMR system., • Perform basic registration tasks, including setting up patient cases in the EMR and updating demographic information., • Accurately document all medical information, clinical findings, and patient interactions in the patient record., • Track and route laboratory and diagnostic test results to physicians and nurse practitioners for review., • Communicate test results to patients when authorized and deemed appropriate by the physician or nurse practitioner., • Facilitate patient care activities by scheduling ancillary tests and reinforcing patient education as directed by clinical staff., • Perform triage activities as appropriate and directed by physicians or nurse practitioners, following site-specific operations and protocols., • Maintain adequate inventory of medical, office, and pharmaceutical supplies, and ensure timely replenishment., • Use basic computer skills to navigate and document in the electronic health record (EHR) and EMR systems proficiently during daily patient care activities., • Process clinical and administrative orders appropriately within the EMR and health record systems., • Support a high-volume urgent care environment by helping manage patient flow and contributing to efficient, coordinated care., • Collaborate with clinical and administrative team members to ensure a positive patient experience and smooth clinic operations. Essential Skills • At least 1 year of experience working as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting., • Proficiency in performing and documenting vital signs accurately., • Experience preparing patients and examination rooms for exams and procedures., • Ability to assist physicians and nurse practitioners with procedures, including documenting medical history and case notes., • Strong skills in collecting patient data in person and by phone and accurately documenting patient concerns., • Demonstrated ability to relay clinical instructions from providers to patients or authorized persons clearly and professionally., • Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) and electronic health record (EHR) systems for documentation, messaging, order entry, and updating demographics., • Ability to track, route, and communicate test results in coordination with physicians and nurse practitioners., • Experience scheduling ancillary tests and supporting patient education and triage activities as directed by clinical staff., • Capability to maintain adequate inventory of medical, office, and pharmaceutical supplies in a busy clinical environment., • Basic computer skills and comfort working with digital health records and clinical software., • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and message-taking., • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced urgent care setting with high patient volume., • Solid patient care skills, including professional communication, empathy, and respect. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Background in phlebotomy and blood draws is beneficial., • Familiarity with health record systems and EMR workflows in medical assisting roles., • Ability to adapt to different specialties and clinical areas, with opportunities to support various departments., • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a busy environment., • Effective verbal and written communication skills when interacting with patients, providers, and staff., • Interest in professional growth and development, with motivation to advance within the organization., • Reliability and flexibility to support extended hours when needed. Work Environment The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with flexibility to work until 6:00 PM if needed. The environment is fast-paced and patient-focused, requiring consistent use of electronic medical record and electronic health record systems for documentation, messaging, and order processing. Medical Assistants work closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other clinical staff to support a high volume of patient visits, ancillary testing, and procedures. The role involves frequent patient interaction, movement between exam rooms, and regular use of standard medical equipment and supplies. The clinic emphasizes a professional, organized, and clean setting where team members collaborate to deliver efficient, high-quality care. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Middletown, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
