Van Leeuwen Ice Cream is hiring a full-time General Manager (Single Unit) to oversee our Darien, CT location. This is a great opportunity for a highly experienced individual to work closely with the founding team of Van Leeuwen Ice Cream as they embark on their next stage of accelerated growth. The ideal candidate is someone who has experience operating food retail spaces (multi-unit or high volume single-unit), loves building and leading teams, and can thrive in a fast-paced environment (and loves ice cream!). The General Manager is responsible for the overall operation of their assigned store(s). This includes managing people operations, sales, inventory, and the guest service experience. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES • Completes store operational requirements by scheduling and assigning stations for employees, • Maintains store staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees, • Maintains store staff job results by coaching, counseling, disciplining, and terminating employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results, • Achieves financial objectives by monitoring sales targets, maintaining budgets, and properly forecasting labor, • Upholds excellent standard of customer service, • Ensures availability of merchandise and services by communicating with vendors; maintaining inventories, • Maintains a safe and clean environment for customers and employees, • Rolls out new menu items to team members and communicates these changes throughout the retail space, • Processes weekly payroll in a timely and accurate manner, • Orders and maintains uniform supply and successfully holds all employees to uniform standard, • Addresses all maintenance issues JOB REQUIREMENTS • ServSafe Manager Food handlers license required, • 2+ years of experience in a food retail management role preferred, • Prior experience managing a team required, • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, • Ability to multitask PERKS + BENEFITS • Employee Scoop Card (Enjoy Ice Cream from any of our scoop shops nationwide), • Medical, Dental + Vision Insurance with 70% Employer Contribution, • 401k with up to 4% Employer Match, • Cell Phone Reimbursement Plan, • Paid Time Off - 3 Weeks / 120 Hours Total, • Paid Sick Time, • Yearly Performance Reviews Van Leeuwen Ice Cream is committed to pay transparency and equity among all employees and provides employees an environment where pay transparency and dialogue on compensation are allowed. Role Overview: As the Produce Department Manager, you are a key player in overseeing and managing all aspects of the produce department including but not limited to: department profitability, displays, oversee inventory control and leading the team to successfully drive business/sales. Our guest is the heart of our business. As the Produce Department Manager, you will be responsible for providing every guest with an exceptional shopping experience; listening and responding to their needs and being the subject matter expert of your department. All Produce Department Managers must have produce and perishable foods knowledge, hospitality skills, positive energy, be dependable, possess basic math skills and excellent communication skills. Responsibilities & Duties: • Model and deliver exceptional guest service and ensure guest needs are met in a timely fashion., • Oversee day to day operations of the produce department., • Receive merchandise, break down pallets, manage vendor invoices and make sure product is to Citarella standards., • Manage department profitability, merchandising, guest service, appearance, and team member supervision., • Write department schedules, approve team members PTO time, maintain timecards and manage labor., • Supervise team members ensuring service standards are always being met., • Basic knife skills., • Manage and maintain department inventory levels., • Collaborate with buyer to ensure proper product assortment, merchandising, ordering and inventory control., • Monitor quality, freshness, culling of merchandise, and safeguard proper product rotation. Adhere to all DOH, DOA and OSHA standards., • Ensure department is cleaned and maintained throughout all shifts (produce displays, coolers, and work areas etc.), • Maintain accurate department signage and pricing., • Direct and support team members on department opening and closing procedures., • Assist store leadership, as required, to select, train, develop, and mentor team members., • Cultivate, develop and retain team members by way of motivation, and providing feedback., • Adhere to all assigned duties by management team. Minimum Requirements: • Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience managing a produce department in a grocery store environment., • Flexibility schedule including nights, weekends and holidays., • Ability to perform physical requirements of job including standing during scheduled hours, kneeling, stooping, using stairs, lifting, push and pull items of usually 20-75 pounds., • Vast knowledge of handling perishable items and product rotation., • Food safety and sanitation knowledge., • Ability to show initiative, work with limited supervision, and are self-motivated., • Ability to hire, train, inspire and develop a team., • Team builder and brand ambassador., • Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills., • Analytical thinking and proficiency in math needed to perform job responsibilities., • Proficient computer knowledge and skills; Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel IN RETURN, WE OFFER! Role and Responsibilities As a member of Citarella’s Seafood Team, you will play a key role in delivering exceptional guest service while maintaining deep knowledge of our premium seafood offerings. This position requires pride in product presentation, attention to safety and sanitation standards, and a strong sense of teamwork. You will be responsible for merchandising, product rotation, waste monitoring, and engaging with guests to provide an outstanding shopping experience. • Provide exceptional guest service to drive sales and ensure satisfaction., • Use suggestive selling techniques to promote seafood products., • Receive, unload, and break down deliveries; stock and rotate merchandise., • Ensure all items meet Citarella’s high-quality standards before display., • Prepare seafood items, including cleaning and cooking shrimp and lobster., • Maintain and restock displays while ensuring proper rotation and facing of products., • Apply basic knife skills to prepare seafood as needed., • Adhere to all Department of Health (DOH), Department of Agriculture (DOA), and OSHA safety and sanitation standards., • Use and manage cleaning chemicals in accordance with safety protocols., • Communicate clearly and professionally with team members and management., • Maintain a professional, respectful, and guest-facing demeanor at all times., • Complete all assigned duties as directed by the management team. Requirements • 6 months to 1 year of experience in seafood handling, guest service, and sales., • Strong guest service and merchandising skills., • Ability to retain and apply product knowledge., • Strong organizational and time management skills in a fast-paced environment., • Problem-solving ability and sense of urgency., • Team player with a willingness to support fellow associates., • Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
