Job Description Schedule: Part-Time, 3 Days per Week — Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday Hours: Variable schedule; generally, 8-hour shifts, with possible hours as early as 7:45 AM and as late as 5:00 PM. Position Summary: The Dermatology Medical Assistant supports physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and the clinical team in delivering safe, efficient, compassionate care in a high-volume dermatology practice. This role is responsible for patient intake, room preparation, documentation support, assisting providers with clinical workflow, maintaining supplies, and promoting a respectful and comfortable experience for every patient. Because the practice conducts sensitive total-body skin examinations and serves a predominantly female patient population, the selected candidate must demonstrate exceptional professionalism, discretion, empathy, and the ability to make patients feel safe, respected, and at ease. The ideal candidate is dependable, proactive, highly organized, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and able to travel reliably among the Stony Brook, Commack, and Riverhead offices. Essential Responsibilities • Travel as scheduled to the Stony Brook, Commack, and Riverhead practice locations; maintain reliable transportation and punctual attendance., • Welcome patients, verify identity and demographic information, obtain and document chief complaint, medical history updates, medications, allergies, and other information as directed by the supervising provider., • Obtain and accurately record vital signs, including height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, respirations, and temperature, in accordance with office policy., • Prepare examination and procedure rooms before and between patients, including restocking supplies, cleaning surfaces, maintaining room readiness, and supporting efficient patient flow., • Escort and prepare patients for dermatology visits, including sensitive or total-body skin examinations, while safeguarding patient privacy, dignity, modesty, and comfort., • Provide clear, professional, and compassionate communication to patients and families; explain non-clinical visit logistics and reinforce provider-directed instructions as permitted., • Assist authorized providers during examinations and procedures under direct supervision and within New York State scope-of-practice requirements and organizational policy., • Act as a scribe, when assigned, by entering provider-directed history, physical exam information, patient concerns, medication and allergy updates, and other documentation into the EHR., • Prepare, label, document, and coordinate laboratory specimens, pathology materials, superficial cultures, and other testing materials according to practice policy and applicable requirements., • Support follow-up workflow by routing messages, coordinating referrals, assisting with scheduling, and communicating provider-directed next steps to patients., • Maintain accurate EHR documentation, patient records, procedure logs, supply records, and other administrative records., • Monitor and replenish clinical, procedure-room, and office supplies; report inventory needs to the designated supervisor., • Answer phones, route calls and messages appropriately, and provide general administrative support as needed., • Maintain strict patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, infection-prevention practices, OSHA standards, patient-rights requirements, and all practice policies., • Participate in team meetings, mandatory training, quality-improvement activities, and cross-coverage responsibilities as needed., • Perform other duties within training, supervision, and scope as assigned by management. Required Qualifications • High school diploma or GED required., • Completion of a Medical Assistant training program or equivalent relevant clinical experience preferred., • At least one year of Medical Assistant, patient-care, physician-office, ambulatory-care, or specialty-practice experience preferred; dermatology experience is strongly preferred., • Prior experience in a high-volume medical office environment, including patient intake, vital signs, rooming, EHR documentation, clinical supply management, and provider support., • Comfortable supporting patients during sensitive examinations with maturity, discretion, empathy, and a patient-centered approach., • Strong verbal and written communication skills, professional phone etiquette, and excellent interpersonal skills., • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, attention to detail, time management, adaptability, and ability to multitask., • Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, APPs, clinical staff, front-office staff, and patients while also completing assigned work independently., • Proficiency with electronic health record systems and standard computer applications., • Ability and willingness to work the stated variable schedule, including early start times, and occasional overtime when needed., • Reliable transportation and ability to travel among the Stony Brook, Commack, and Riverhead offices.
