The precincts with one advocate are assigned to work with all victims of crime, including victims of domestic violence. As such, they develop skills where they address the lack of privacy with clients, while navigating a shared space with an outside entity- the NYPD. Advocates are required to report to the precinct/PSA each day for their shift. The Safe Horizon crime victim advocate/domestic violence advocate partners with the police personnel to provide outreach to victims who have filed police reports, or victims who walk into a precinct and seek assistance. The advocate will enter client information into the Case Management System in a timely fashion. The advocate will work with all victims of crime who need help from the NYPD with a specific focus for victims who filed a report as victims of violent felony offense as well as victims of domestic violence who have filed police reports on an as-needed basis. Given the volume in many precincts, advocates will assess high risk and focus on their on-going support for victims identified as such. Job Description Safe Horizon’s Senior DV Victim Advocate (SVD) works within the SVD of NYPD. The advocate partners with police personnel to provide a coordinated, victim-centered approach to teen and adult victims of sexual assault to reduce trauma and improve the quality of services victims receive. Job Description Summary: Streetwork Project is an innovative outreach-counseling program for homeless youth in Harlem, which utilizes a harm reduction approach. Under this umbrella, Case managers provide comprehensive services to adolescents and young adults impacted by homelessness and involved in street activities (gangs, violence, drug use/sale and survival sex). This position will focus on providing support and services to LGBT youth. Services provided include assessment, case planning, case facilitation and management, counseling, referrals, outreach, crisis transportation, daily living services (food, shower, respite), triage counseling, recreational activities and support groups. The Case manager coordinates with Safe Horizon supporting programs and local agencies to provide short- and long-term care necessary to meet the wide range of needs related to homeless adolescents. Job DescriptionSafe Horizon’s Senior DV Victim Advocate (SVD) works within the SVD of NYPD. The advocate partners with police personnel to provide a coordinated, victim-centered approach to teen and adult victims of sexual assault to reduce trauma and improve the quality of services victims receive. The advocate works with victims, friends, caregivers and family members of sexual assault who are seeking assistance from NYPD within the SVD. Job Description The Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) is a joint program of Safe Horizon and the New York City Police Department (NYPD)that has assigned advocates to every police precinct and Police Service Area (PSA), 86, in total, citywide. Some precincts have two advocates assigned (a crime victim advocate and a domestic violence victim advocate) except for several identified precincts with one advocate. The precincts with one advocate are assigned to work with all victims of crime, including victims of domestic violence. Advocates literally sit side by side with police officers and NYPD civilian personnel and rarely have their own office space. As such, they develop skills where they address the lack of privacy with clients, while navigating a shared space with an outside entity- the NYPD. Advocates are required to report to the precinct/PSA each day for their shift. The Safe Horizon crime victim advocate/domestic violence advocate partners with the police personnel to provide outreach to victims who have filed police reports, or victims who walk into a precinct and seek assistance. The advocate will enter client information into the Case Management System in a timely fashion. The advocate will work with all victims of crime who need help from the NYPD with a specific focus for victims who filed a report as victims of violent felony offense as well as victims of domestic violence who have filed police reports on an as-needed basis. Given the volume in many precincts, advocates will assess high risk and focus on their on-going support for victims identified as such. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Learn and integrate a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, using an anti-oppressive lens, into your work with clients., • Participate in the forensic interview process through assuming a lead interviewing role or observing the interview of the child, coordinating services with the team members, • Conduct a thorough assessment of the child and the non-offending family members to determine the impact of the trauma on the child’s functioning, and the need for additional services for the child and family., • Provide trauma focused intervention and client-centered victim advocacy and support to the child, siblings and non-offending parent(s) in the process of making effective referrals and linkages to trauma-focused mental health treatment and other services when warranted., • Actively participate in case planning and case review meetings to inform the investigation, and coordinate interventions and response to child victims and impacted family members., • Enter accurate case files and maintain case data in the CAC NCATrak case tracking system for every service provided to clients in a timely manner, from the opening to the closing of a case., • Conduct psycho-educational workshops for non-offending parents., • Participate in weekly supervision, group supervision and on-going trainings., • Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
