Position Summary The Facilities Manager serves as the primary onsite manager for Shawl-Anderson Dance Center's Center Street location. Reporting to the Office & Operations Manager, this position is responsible for the day-to-day operation and readiness of the facility, including maintenance and vendor coordination, building safety and supplies, front desk and student sign-in functions, and onsite direction of Stewards assigned to Center Street. The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, proactive, hands-on, and service-oriented, with the ability to independently solve day-to-day facility issues while knowing when larger concerns require organizational leadership. Stewardship of the Role The Facilities Manager oversees SADC's Center Street facility, ensuring safe, functional, and welcoming operations for students, families, faculty, artists, renters, audiences, and visitors. Guiding Principles The Facilities Manager is expected to: • Take ownership of Center Street's daily operations., • Anticipate needs and solve problems proactively., • Follow maintenance and vendor needs through to completion., • Exercise sound independent judgment., • Communicate significant concerns promptly., • Create a welcoming and professional environment., • Collaborate effectively across SADC's staff and locations., • Approach the care of the facility with accountability and pride.Core Responsibilities The Facilities Manager oversees four main areas: • Facility Operations & Readiness ensures Center Street is safe, functional, supplied, and ready for daily activities;, • Maintenance & Vendors handles routine upkeep, repairs, and vendor coordination;, • Front Desk & Community Experience maintains onsite presence, student sign-in, and community welcome;, • Steward Coordination directs Stewards on site.Primary Responsibilities1. Facility Operations & Readiness, • Conduct regular walkthroughs of studios, theaters, restrooms, common areas, entrances, and exterior areas., • Ensure spaces are ready for classes, rehearsals, rentals, performances, and events., • Monitor cleanliness, safety, lighting, temperature, equipment, and general building condition., • Maintain facility supplies and communicate purchasing needs., • Coordinate room setups and transitions as needed., • Implement established opening, closing, safety, and security procedures., • Maintain appropriate facility records and documentation.2. Maintenance & Vendor Management, • Identify and address routine maintenance needs., • Initiate and track maintenance requests through completion., • Coordinate with approved vendors, contractors, service providers, and building management., • Schedule and provide access for repairs and service visits., • Maintain records of repairs, inspections, and recurring maintenance., • Communicate major repairs, unexpected expenses, or safety concerns to the Office & Operations Manager., • Recommend improvements to the safety, efficiency, and functionality of the facility.3. Front Desk & Community Experience, • Maintain front desk coverage during designated hours., • Manage student check-in and class sign-in as needed., • Welcome students, families, faculty, artists, renters, and visitors., • Answer basic facility and directional questions and refer administrative or program questions to the appropriate staff member., • Monitor public areas and respond appropriately to onsite concerns., • Help ensure that everyone entering Center Street experiences a professional, organized, and welcoming environment.4. Steward Coordination, • Provide onsite direction to Stewards assigned to Center Street., • Communicate daily facility and front desk priorities., • Ensure assigned responsibilities are completed consistently., • Support Stewards in resolving routine onsite issues., • Coordinate with the Office & Operations Manager regarding shared Steward coverage between SADC locations., • Communicate performance or coverage concerns to the Office & Operations Manager.5. Organizational Collaboration, • Work closely with the Office & Operations Manager regarding facility operations and organizational priorities., • Coordinate with the Education Program Manager regarding facility needs for educational programming., • Support performances, rentals, workshops, rehearsals, and special events at Center Street., • Attend required staff meetings and trainings., • Communicate operational information clearly and proactively.Position Boundaries The Facilities Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management and operational readiness of the Center Street location. This position does not oversee administrative operations, educational programming, faculty supervision, student registration, • HR, budgeting, marketing, policies, major contracts, or board governance. Work Schedule This position averages approximately 25 hours per week, with a regular onsite schedule at Center Street Monday through Friday, 12:00–5:00 PM. Occasional schedule adjustments may be required for performances, rentals, special events, or facility needs. Additional hours require prior approval from the Office & Operations Manager. Work Location This position is fully onsite at SADC's Center Street location in Downtown Berkeley. Occasional work at SADC's Alcatraz location may be required for meetings, training, or organizational coordination. QualificationsRequired: • Three or more years of experience in facilities management, building operations, property management, hospitality, arts administration, or a related field., • Experience coordinating vendors, contractors, maintenance, or facility services., • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills., • Excellent communication and customer service skills., • Demonstrated reliability, initiative, and attention to detail., • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities., • Ability to provide clear onsite direction to staff., • Comfort working in a public-facing environment, including front desk responsibilities., • Ability to perform the physical functions necessary for day-to-day building oversight., • Basic proficiency with email, shared documents, and organizational technology.Preferred:, • Experience in a performing arts, educational, nonprofit, community, or event facility., • Experience supporting or directing front desk or facility staff., • Familiarity with theater, dance studio, or performance venue operations., • Experience working within a multi-site organization.Role Evolution Responsibilities may evolve as SADC's Center Street location grows and its operational needs become clearer. Future responsibilities will remain substantially aligned with the Facilities Manager's core purpose of stewarding the Center Street facility and its day-to-day operations. Hours, Compensation & Benefits Starts October 5, 2026. 25 hours/week at $31-36 per hour*. Benefits include: • Sick Leave Accrual:, • Employees accrue paid sick leave immediately according to the City of Berkeley Paid Sick Leave Ordinance. Employees earn one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked with a cap at 72 hours., • SADC is highly flexible about use of sick time; anything that supports your well-being will be an approved use of leave as well as all of the reasons as stated in the CA state law., • These are not paid out upon resignation/termination., • Holiday Pay: paid time off according to your regular schedule on the following days: New Year’s Day, MLK Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, July 4th, Labor Day, Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day., • Personal Days: Part-time employees receive two Personal Days a year (5 hours each)., • 403b: SADC offers a 403b retirement plan through Vanguard.
