Job Description Music Teacher Job Description The Music Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing a high-quality, engaging music program for children at KLA Schools of Chamblee. Music experiences should be developmentally appropriate, interactive, and aligned with the Reggio Emilia philosophy, encouraging children to explore music as a form of communication, creativity, movement, and self-expression. The Music Teacher will work on campus each Friday from 8:45 AM–1:30 PM and will also support select school events, performances, celebrations, and family experiences throughout the school year. During the introductory period, the employee’s supervisor will explain job responsibilities and performance standards expected. From time to time, the employee may be asked to assist with special projects, events, or other work necessary to support the operation of KLA Schools. Cooperation and assistance in performing such additional work is expected and appreciated. Key Responsibilities of the Music Teacher • Develops and implements a developmentally appropriate music curriculum for children from infancy through early elementary age, • Plans engaging weekly music experiences that incorporate singing, rhythm, movement, instruments, and creative expression, • Plays guitar and/or ukulele as part of classroom music experiences, • Introduces children to a variety of musical styles, instruments, sounds, rhythms, and cultural music experiences, • Creates age-appropriate lesson plans and adapts experiences based on the developmental abilities and interests of each group, • Incorporates movement, dance, storytelling, and dramatic expression into music experiences when appropriate, • Encourages children to explore music independently and collaboratively, • Provides opportunities for children to experiment with instruments and sound in meaningful and open-ended ways, • Aligns music experiences with the Reggio Emilia philosophy and KLA Schools' educational approach, • Collaborates with teachers and the Pedagogical Coordinator to connect music experiences with classroom projects and children's current interests, • Maintains appropriate classroom management while creating an engaging and positive environment, • Ensures instruments, equipment, and materials are used safely and appropriately, • Maintains and organizes music materials and supplies, • Communicates supply or equipment needs to school leadership, • Supports select school-wide celebrations, performances, family events, and special programs, • Assists in preparing children for performances or musical presentations when applicable, • Participates in professional development, meetings, or training as requested, • Maintains positive and professional communication with children, families, teachers, and school leadership, • Adheres to all KLA Schools policies and health and safety procedures Reporting Relationship • Reports directly to the School Director, • Collaborates with the Pedagogical Coordinator and classroom teaching teams Schedule • Fridays from 8:45 AM–1:30 PM, • Additional availability for select on-campus events, performances, celebrations, and special programs throughout the school year Job, Health, and Educational Requirements • 18 years of age or older, • Experience teaching music to young children strongly preferred, • Experience in early childhood or elementary education preferred, • Ability to play guitar and/or ukulele required, • Strong singing, rhythm, movement, and musical facilitation skills, • Ability to develop and independently implement an age-appropriate music curriculum, • Knowledge of child development and appropriate expectations for children of different ages, • Ability to lead engaging music experiences with both small and large groups, • Ability to modify music experiences for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and early elementary-aged children, • Commitment to learning and applying the Reggio Emilia philosophy, • Commitment to state, federal, and KLA Schools guidelines, • Must meet applicable background screening requirements, • Commitment to state and local agency training requirements and certifications, • Ability to supervise and interact with children indoors and outdoors as needed, • Full range of motion to sit on the floor, stand, reach, bend, move, dance, and fully participate in musical activities with children, • Mental and physical alertness and an appropriate level of energy to perform essential job requirements, • Strong organizational and time-management skills, • Strong verbal communication skills, • English language proficiency; bilingual skills are a plus, • Adherence to all health, safety, and operating procedures as outlined by KLA Schools Job Performance • Arrives to work on time and prepared for scheduled classes, • Maintains consistent attendance and communicates absences according to school procedures, • Prepares appropriate lessons, instruments, and materials in advance, • Implements an organized and engaging music curriculum, • Demonstrates enthusiasm, creativity, and professionalism when working with children, • Maintains appropriate supervision and attends responsibly to the safety of children, • Keeps instruments, supplies, and teaching areas clean and organized, • Works collaboratively with classroom teachers and school leadership, • Maintains positive communication with children, families, and staff members, • Supports school community activities and select special events, • Demonstrates flexibility when adjusting lessons based on children's interests, abilities, and classroom needs, • Maintains all required training, certifications, and background screening requirements For all job descriptions, the employee is responsible for keeping required in-service hours, education, certifications, background screening, and training requirements current.
