Job DescriptionShift Supervisor Location: Staten Island, NY Pay Rate: $21.63/hour Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly) Reports To: Director of Operations / Program Director Position Summary The Shift Supervisor plays a critical role in maintaining the safety, security, and daily operations of a residential shelter facility. Working in close coordination with security staff, this position provides on-shift leadership and direction to Security Guards and Residence Workers to ensure a structured, safe, and supportive environment for clients and staff. This role requires strong judgment, the ability to respond effectively to crisis situations, and a commitment to upholding safety protocols and operational standards in a fast-paced, client-facing setting. Key Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Provide on-site supervision and coordination of security personnel and collaborate with Residence Workers to ensure effective shift operations Monitor clients, residential units, and facility grounds to ensure safety and security at all times Screen and inspect all items entering the facility in accordance with established safety protocols Respond to incidents and provide crisis prevention and intervention as necessary Accurately document incidents, complaints, and client grievances in logbooks and formal reports Maintain ongoing communication with program and social services staff regarding client-related concerns Oversee entry logs to ensure all visitors and staff are properly recorded and accounted for Monitor video surveillance systems and address any identified safety or security concerns Ensure completion of assigned cleaning and operational tasks by program aides Enforce compliance with all safety, health, and fire code policies and procedures Identify and report safety hazards promptly to appropriate personnel Assist clients by addressing questions, concerns, and conflicts in a professional and respectful manner Support site operations by recommending process improvements to enhance efficiency and safety Provide coverage for shifts as needed, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional overnight coverage Perform additional duties as assigned to support overall facility operations Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required Prior experience in a shelter, residential, or similar human services setting preferred Certifications & Requirements Valid NYS Security Guard License required F-80 Certificate of Fitness required CPR and Basic First Aid certification required Valid driver’s license preferred Authorization to work in the United States Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check, in accordance with applicable laws Working knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (confidentiality standards) Skills & Competencies Ability to maintain professional boundaries in a client-facing environment Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills Effective problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities Sound judgment and decision-making in high-pressure situations Ability to assess emergencies and respond quickly and appropriately High level of integrity, accountability, and attention to detail Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred Physical Demands Ability to stand or sit for extended periods (8–10 hours) Frequent walking, bending, and lifting Ability to navigate stairs regularly and respond quickly in emergency situations Ability to travel between assigned sites, as needed Work Environment Work is performed in a residential shelter and office environment Position requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional overnight shifts May involve responding to urgent situations outside of standard working hours Equal Employment Opportunity Statement We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and are committed to maintaining a diverse and inclusive workplace.
