Yard Manager – Huddersfield \n \n\n • Salary: Up to £50,000 per annum, dependent on experience\n, • Contract: Permanent, Full-Time\n, • Location: Elland, West Yorkshire\n\n \n Areera Intelligent Screen Recycling is looking for an experienced Yard Manager to take ownership of our busy and complex yard operation at our Elland site. \n \n This is a senior, hands-on role with responsibility for the safe, efficient and organised running of the yard. You will oversee vehicle movements, material flow, staffing and safety, while ensuring the yard supports the wider requirements of both production and transport. \n \n We are looking for someone who is highly organised, visible and decisive, with the ability to bring structure to a fast-moving environment. Priorities can change quickly, so you will need to plan ahead, communicate clearly and make confident, practical decisions to keep the operation running smoothly. \n \n The Role \n \n You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the yard, ensuring transport movements, production requirements and material handling are coordinated effectively. \n \n Key responsibilities will include: \n \n\n • Taking overall ownership of day-to-day yard operations\n, • Coordinating activity between yard, transport and production teams\n, • Managing vehicle movements, loading, unloading and material flow across the site\n, • Planning yard capacity and ensuring space is used safely and efficiently\n, • Working closely with transport and production teams to anticipate requirements and avoid delays or bottlenecks\n, • Making fast, practical decisions when priorities change or operational issues arise\n, • Maintaining clear communication across departments\n, • Managing and developing the yard team, setting clear expectations and maintaining high standards\n, • Planning staffing levels and ensuring the right resources are available to meet operational demand\n, • Managing permanent and agency labour where required\n, • Driving high standards of health & safety, housekeeping and operational discipline\n, • Ensuring pedestrian, vehicle and plant movements are managed safely\n, • Identifying risks, challenging unsafe behaviour and ensuring incidents and near misses are reported and followed through\n, • Monitoring yard performance and identifying opportunities to improve flow, efficiency and productivity\n, • Ensuring plant, equipment and operational areas are managed effectively\n, • Providing clear operational updates and escalating significant issues where required\n, • Supporting longer-term planning and continuous improvement across the site\n\n \n About You \n \n We are looking for an experienced operational leader who is comfortable working in a demanding, fast-moving environment. \n \n You will ideally have: \n \n\n • Significant experience managing a busy yard or a similar transport, logistics, recycling, waste or manufacturing operation\n, • Strong planning and organisational skills\n, • The ability to make confident decisions under pressure\n, • Excellent communication skills and the ability to coordinate multiple teams and priorities\n, • Strong people management and leadership experience\n, • Experience managing staffing levels, performance and operational standards\n, • A strong understanding of health & safety within a yard, transport or production environment\n, • Experience working around HGVs, plant, loading and unloading operations or high-volume material movements\n, • Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, hands-on approach\n, • The ability to identify potential issues early and put plans in place before they affect the operation\n, • Confidence working with senior managers and taking ownership of your area\n\n \n Experience within recycling, waste management or WEEE would be particularly beneficial. \n \n If you are an experienced Yard Manager, Operations Manager, Logistics Manager or Transport Manager looking for a senior operational role with real responsibility and pace, we would like to hear from you.
