Project Manager | Walpole 400kV Substation Location: Walpole, Norfolk Contract: 6-month initial contract - Likely extension to 12 months, with a possible second project to follow IR35: Outside IR35 Working pattern: Approximately 3 days per week on site or in the office, with flexibility for home working Rate: Around £600-£650 per day, depending on experience About the Client Our client is a leading global engineering and construction consultancy with an established presence across the UK energy sector. They deliver major infrastructure projects across transmission and distribution, supporting the UK’s transition towards a lower-carbon energy system. Their UK business is involved in the delivery of high-voltage substation projects, working with major Transmission Network Owners and delivering complex EPC projects from concept through to completion. The Opportunity We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to join the EPC delivery team on a major transmission project at Walpole. This is a key role within the project team, responsible for managing the overall delivery of the project and acting as a primary point of contact for the client and wider project stakeholders. The successful candidate will bring strong experience managing EPC or major transmission projects and will be comfortable taking ownership of programme, cost, commercial, safety, quality and stakeholder management. The role will involve working closely with engineering, procurement, construction, commercial and project controls teams to ensure the project is delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with contractual requirements. Key Responsibilities • Lead and coordinate all aspects of EPC project execution, from concept through to completion., • Take responsibility for project safety, CDM compliance and overall delivery performance., • Act as the primary point of contact for the client and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and project stakeholders., • Manage project programme, scope, costs, risks and commercial performance, including responsibility for project P&L., • Coordinate engineering and procurement activities and lead value engineering and constructability reviews., • Provide construction management oversight and ensure project deliverables are achieved to the required standards., • Develop and maintain project execution plans and associated contract documentation., • Manage project resources and support subcontractor and supply chain selection., • Work closely with project controls and commercial teams to monitor progress, cost and schedule., • Provide regular reporting covering project progress, procurement, safety, environmental matters, risks and commercial performance., • Support EPC proposals, presentations and future business development opportunities., • Build strong relationships across the industry and contribute to the continued development of the UK EPC business., • Mentor and support other members of the project team. About You We are looking for an established Project Manager with a strong background in UK transmission and distribution, ideally with experience delivering major substation or EPC projects. You will need to be confident managing complex projects, multiple stakeholders and competing priorities, whilst maintaining a strong focus on safety, programme, cost and quality. Experience working directly with Transmission Network Owners and within a high-voltage substation environment would be highly advantageous. Essential Experience • Proven experience as a Project Manager within the transmission and distribution sector., • Strong experience managing EPC or major infrastructure projects., • Experience delivering high-voltage substation projects., • Strong understanding of CDM, health and safety and project governance., • Demonstrable experience managing programme, cost, risk, commercial performance and project stakeholders., • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering, procurement and construction teams., • Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills., • Ability to work autonomously whilst operating effectively within a wider project team.
