Own the finance function of a renewable energy business that's actually growing. \n Thermal Earth is one of the UK's most established heat pump specialists. From our base at Capel Hendre we design, supply and install ground source and air source heat pump systems, and we've completed over 3,500 installations since 2006. \n That growth has outrun our finance setup. We're looking for the person who takes ownership of it. \n What you'd actually be doing \n This is a hands-on, sleeves-rolled-up finance role in an SME, not a seat in a big finance team. You'd own: \n\n • Month-end close — journals, accruals, prepayments, reconciliations, and a management accounts pack that lands on time and means something\n, • Sales and purchase ledger, credit control, supplier payments and cash flow forecasting\n, • VAT returns, CIS, payroll processing and pension submissions\n, • Job and project costing — tracking margin on individual installations against quoted cost, and telling us clearly where we're making money and where we aren't\n, • Stock and WIP for heat pumps, cylinders and materials\n, • Year-end file and liaison with our external accountants and auditors\n, • Budgeting, forecasting and financial modelling\n, • Grant and scheme administration, including Boiler Upgrade Scheme and related funding routes\n, • Getting more out of our systems: we run Odoo ERP and there's real scope to automate and improve the reporting coming out of it\n\n What we're looking for \n\n • Solid all-round accounting experience in an SME, where you were the finance function rather than one part of it\n, • Qualified (ACA, ACCA or CIMA), part-qualified, or qualified by experience — we care more about what you can do than what's after your name\n, • Confident preparing management accounts to trial balance and beyond, without hand-holding\n, • Comfortable with accounting software and, ideally, an ERP — Odoo, Sage, Xero, QuickBooks or similar. Strong Excel is non-negotiable\n, • Someone who will tell the Managing Director when the numbers say no\n, • Practical about a construction/installation business: retentions, staged invoicing, subcontractors and CIS won't be a surprise to you\n\n Helpful, but not essential \n\n • Construction, manufacturing, engineering or renewables background\n, • CIS and job costing experience\n, • Exposure to grant-funded or subscription/recurring revenue models\n, • Experience improving or implementing finance systems\n\n What you get \n\n • £45,000 – £55,000 depending on experience and qualification\n, • Full time, permanent, based at our Ammanford site\n, • 20 days holiday plus bank holidays - growing 1 day per year to 25 days\n, • Company pension\n, • Free on-site parking\n, • A direct line to the Managing Director and real influence — the person in this role shapes how the business is run, not just how it's reported\n, • The chance to build the finance function properly rather than inherit someone else's version of it\n, • A part in decarbonising UK heating, working for a Welsh business that's been doing it since long before it was fashionable\n\n How to apply \n Send your CV and a short covering note telling us about a finance process you've improved or built from scratch. We read every application and reply to everyone. \n Thermal Earth Ltd is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from all backgrounds. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
