Join us as an Engineer - Structural Analysis at our Farnborough site, where you will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in partnership with some of the most brilliant minds.The RoleAs an Engineer - Structural Analysis, you’ll support our Structural Analysis and Optimisation capability. The Structural Analysis team uses advanced finite element-based structural analysis codes supported by classical analytical methods to simulate the response of complex, and often novel, materials and structures in challenging, real-world environments.Day-to-day, you’ll support projects across the whole of QinetiQ and for customers in most technical domains, including air, maritime, weapons, land and space. Activities range from conventional stress analysis services through to the development and application of novel simulation methods to develop products, de-risk high-value test activities, inform safety cases and evaluate scenarios that would not be feasible to test.Your responsibilities will include:Structural analysis of large, complex assemblies to support the development of major military productsStress analysis of aircraft modifications and trials installations, for military aircraft and the QinetiQ fleetAssessment of collisions between small ‘drones’ and crewed aircraft, using a combination of validated simulation methods and full-scale testingDevelopment and validation of simulation methods to evaluate the effect of emerging directed energy laser weapons on target structuresSupporting the development of novel technologies for the future UK aircraftDe-risking the development of large composite structures for major UK maritime programmesEssential experience of the Engineer - Structural Analysis:Experienced structural analyst, with strong analytical and numerical skillsExperience in finite element modelling methods, using ABAQUSAbility to deliver projects that include high levels of novel research and methods development as well as undertaking traditional engineering assessments and design-support activitiesKnowledge of adjacent technical disciplines such as design, manufacturing, materials, aerodynamics/hydrodynamicsAble to write quality technical reports and presentationsThe team operates across multiple technical domains so technical capability is more important than domain experience. However, experience in aerospace, space or weapons domains would be beneficialEssential qualifications for the Engineer - Structural Analysis:Meets the requirements of a Chartered Engineer (or working towards this)Finite element analysis using the Hyperworks suite of products (desirable)We value difference and we don’t have a fixed idea when it comes to background or education, provided you can show the required level of experience and willingness to learn then we would like to hear from you.This role is 37 hours per week based at our Farnborough site with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week. Travel to other QinetiQ and customer sites will be expected (mainly Boscombe Down).
