Job Description Risk Coordinator (Safety, Claims & Contract Compliance) Location: Brea, CA Company: Nevell Group (NGi) Department: Risk Management Reports To: Risk Management/Legal Department Head FLSA Status: Exempt About the Role: Nevell Group is seeking an organized, analytical, and experienced Risk Coordinator to support our Risk Management and Legal functions across workers’ compensation, claims administration, contract compliance, safety compliance, litigation support, and construction risk management. This position will play a key role in overseeing workers’ compensation claims, coordinating claims administration across multiple lines of coverage, supporting contract review and compliance, tracking job rights documentation, assisting with litigation and legal matters, and monitoring contract-driven safety requirements. The Risk Coordinator will work closely with the Risk Management/Legal Department Head, Director of Safety, Human Resources, Finance, Operations, Project Management, insurance carriers, third-party administrators, brokers, outside counsel, General Contractors, and project teams. The Director of Safety retains responsibility for the Safety Department and field safety personnel, while this role will support contract-driven safety requirements, documentation, and compliance tracking. Key Responsibilities: • Risk Management & Legal Support:, • Support the Risk Management/Legal Department Head with claims management, insurance matters, subpoenas, litigation support, and internal legal correspondence., • Coordinate contract review workflows for project agreements with General Contractors and second-tier subcontractors/vendors., • Gather scopes, exhibits, and supporting documentation; track revisions and ensure timely routing for review and execution., • Perform initial administrative reviews of contract terms and commercial exhibits, including risk and insurance requirements, schedules, scope references, and key obligations., • Identify and flag contract risks, deviations, and items requiring further review., • Draft and organize contract redlines and contract summaries for the Supervisor and project teams., • Maintain negotiation notes, correspondence, and executed agreement files., • Support master agreement administration, including maintaining templates, tracking renewal dates, and coordinating internal inputs., • Support job rights administration, including lien and stop payment documentation, preliminary notice tracking as applicable, deadline tracking, and file organization., • Assist Finance with accounts receivable risk tracking and collection support documentation., • Support outside legal counsel with document collection, deposition exhibits, discovery responses, and other litigation support activities., • Maintain litigation and claims calendars, including response deadlines, hearings, discovery dates, and reporting obligations., • Prepare first drafts of routine legal correspondence, records responses, and subpoena responses for Supervisor review., • Support compliance programs administered by the Risk Management and Legal Department, including DOT and wage-and-hour compliance documentation., • Workers’ Compensation & Claims Oversight:, • Provide oversight of workers’ compensation claim handling through regular claim reviews with third-party administrators and insurance carriers., • Monitor claim status, reserves, treatment, resolution strategy, and claim outcomes., • Drive claims toward favorable resolution and escalate high-exposure or complex matters to the Supervisor., • Oversee injured employee communications, treatment coordination, return-to-work and modified-duty placement, and interactive process correspondence., • Coordinate with Operations, Human Resources, the Director of Safety, and other internal stakeholders regarding employee claims., • Serve as the day-to-day administrator for workers’ compensation and other claims, including intake, documentation, reporting, carrier/TPA/broker coordination, and internal follow-up., • Maintain open claim logs and review loss runs., • Identify recurring claim drivers, reserve movement, and program cost trends., • Report claim trends and recommend prevention and process improvements., • Escalate complex, high-exposure, or potentially litigated matters to the Supervisor., • Safety Compliance Support:, • Track contract-driven safety staffing requirements across projects, including required safety personnel, certifications, and coverage., • Maintain job-by-job safety compliance logs and coordinate required documentation and submittals with the Director of Safety and Supervisor., • Track safety documentation maintained by the Safety Department, including JHAs, training records, toolbox meetings, OSHA 300 logs, incident investigations, safety personnel certifications, and job walks., • Monitor safety documentation for completeness and availability., • Report safety metrics according to established reporting schedules., • Support the Director of Safety with contract-driven safety requirements, including site-specific safety plans, OSHA/DIR correspondence, and General Contractor communications, as requested., • Coordinate and track safety-related documentation and certifications associated with project and contractual requirements., • Compliance, Training & Risk Support:, • Coordinate risk- and safety-related training logistics, certifications, and documentation., • Support internal communications regarding safety, claims reporting, compliance, and risk management requirements., • Assist with promoting safe work practices and safe working conditions in accordance with Company policies and applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations., • Support compliance with General Contractor, Owner, and contractual requirements., • Prepare job-specific summaries of applicable safety, risk, and compliance requirements., • Monitor regulatory and contractual deadlines and coordinate appropriate follow-up., • Assist with other Risk Management, Legal, Claims, Safety, and Compliance initiatives as assigned. Education & Experience: • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Risk Management, Construction Management, Legal Studies, or a related field preferred., • Minimum 6 years of business experience, including at least 3 years of experience in claims administration, risk management, safety/loss control, contract administration, or a related function within a mid-to-large construction organization., • A paralegal certificate combined with qualifying experience may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement., • Demonstrated experience within a legal, claims, or risk management environment is required., • Qualifying backgrounds may include:, • Paralegal experience, preferably through an ABA-approved program, with exposure to litigation, insurance defense, workers’ compensation, or construction., • Construction-related claims management or adjusting experience involving workers’ compensation, general liability, builder’s risk, or property claims., • Law firm experience in a non-attorney capacity, such as paralegal, legal assistant, case manager, or litigation support., • Experience within the Risk Management or Legal Department of a General Contractor or large specialty subcontractor., • Working familiarity with construction claims and dispute documentation, including notices and reservations of rights, change order and delay claim files, lien and stop payment notice processes, bond claims, subpoena and records responses, and litigation deadline calendaring., • Prior experience supporting an in-house legal or risk management function preferred., • Working knowledge of construction contract terminology and commercial insurance programs, including CGL, workers’ compensation, and OCIP/CCIP wrap programs., • Familiarity with the certificate of insurance process., • Familiarity with Federal, State, and Local Environmental Health & Safety regulations., • Familiarity with general construction operations., • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other job-specific software. Key Qualifications: • Strong knowledge of construction risk management, claims administration, and contract compliance., • Working knowledge of construction contracts, commercial insurance, and risk allocation., • Understanding of workers’ compensation claims administration and claims resolution processes., • Working knowledge of litigation support, including document collection, discovery, subpoena responses, and deadline calendaring., • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail., • Excellent written and verbal communication skills., • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills., • Sound judgment and the ability to identify and escalate potential risks., • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills., • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities., • Ability to work independently and follow through on commitments., • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, non-structured environment and reprioritize responsibilities based on management direction., • High ethical standards and discretion when handling confidential legal, claims, employee, and company information., • Ability to collaborate effectively with Operations, Project Management, Safety, Human Resources, Finance, Executive Leadership, insurance representatives, legal counsel, and external partners., • Limited travel may be required, and reliable transportation is required.
