Job Description Job Title: 2nd Shift Construction General Laborer Job Description The 2nd Shift Construction General Laborer supports the welding crew by safely moving and erecting structural steel on a large construction site. This role operates certified equipment such as scissor lifts and rough-terrain forklifts/telehandlers while performing a wide range of general labor tasks to keep steel installation and related construction activities running smoothly. Responsibilities • Assist the welding crew with moving, positioning, and erecting structural steel components on the job site., • Operate scissor lifts in a safe and efficient manner to support steel erection and related construction activities., • Operate large construction-size forklifts, including rough-terrain forklifts and telehandlers, to transport steel and materials around the site., • Use basic hand and power tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, drills, impacts, socket sets, screw guns, and multitools to complete general construction tasks., • Measure, level, and align materials using tools such as levels, putty spades, nut drivers, and appropriate bits (P2 and P3) to support accurate installation., • Load, unload, and stage construction materials to ensure the welding crew has timely access to required steel and supplies., • Follow site safety procedures and equipment operating guidelines to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and others., • Work collaboratively with welders and other construction team members to meet project timelines and quality standards., • Adapt to changing site conditions and instructions, performing a variety of general labor duties as needed., • Maintain tools and equipment in clean, working order and report any issues or safety concerns to site leadership. Essential Skills • Valid scissor lift certification with demonstrated ability to operate the equipment safely on a construction site., • Valid certification to operate large construction-size forklifts, including rough-terrain forklifts or telehandlers., • Construction with hands-on experience in general labor tasks and familiarity with common construction tools., • Ability to safely handle and move structural steel and other heavy materials in coordination with the welding crew., • Competence in using basic hand tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, socket sets (preferably 3/8 drive), putty spades, nut drivers, and levels., • Competence in using basic power tools such as drills, impacts, screw guns, and multitools for trimming and related tasks., • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and adhere to safety protocols in a busy construction environment., • Physical capability to perform sustained manual labor, including lifting, carrying, climbing, and working on or around elevated platforms. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience working on large-scale construction projects or steel erection environments., • Comfort working on 2nd shift with extended night hours similar in length to daytime shifts., • Strong teamwork and communication skills to coordinate effectively with welders and other crew members., • Attention to detail when measuring, aligning, and securing materials to support precise installation., • Reliability and punctuality to meet demanding project schedules across multiple days of the week. Current hours run Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with the position transitioning to 2nd shift where similar extended hours are worked during the night. Work involves using scissor lifts, rough-terrain forklifts or telehandlers, and a variety of hand and power tools including screwdrivers, wrenches, drills, impacts, socket sets (preferably 3/8 drive), screw guns, P2 and P3 bits, putty spades, 5/16 nut drivers, multitools for trimming, and levels. Conditions can vary with weather and site activity, requiring awareness of surroundings and strict adherence to safety practices while working around heavy equipment, elevated platforms, and structural steel. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Memphis, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $28.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
