Job Description Job Title: Trailer Technician Job Description The Trailer Technician inspects, diagnoses, repairs, fabricates, and maintains commercial trailers and their components to ensure all equipment operates safely and efficiently. This role involves a broad range of mechanical, electrical, welding, fabrication, brake, suspension, and structural repairs. Technicians have the opportunity to advance through levels based on their technical knowledge, experience, certifications, and ability to perform increasingly complex repairs independently. Responsibilities • Perform preventative maintenance inspections on commercial trailers and related equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation., • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems on a variety of trailer types., • Repair, replace, or install trailer components such as hubcaps, lighting systems, plywood flooring, roof patches, doors, panels, and other trailer hardware., • Check and maintain proper tire air pressure and inspect tires for wear, damage, or other safety concerns., • Inspect and maintain fluid levels and lubricate equipment according to maintenance schedules and manufacturer recommendations., • Troubleshoot and repair trailer lighting systems and electrical wiring to ensure proper function and compliance with safety standards., • Diagnose and repair ABS (Anti-Lock Braking Systems) on trailers., • Perform air brake maintenance, inspections, and repairs, ensuring systems operate safely and reliably., • Replace air valves, brake chambers, air lines, and other air brake system components as needed., • Repair and maintain spring ride and air ride suspension systems, including inspections and component replacement., • Diagnose and repair axle and wheel-end assemblies to prevent failures and extend equipment life., • Use welding and fabrication skills to perform structural repairs and modifications on trailers when required., • Document work performed and communicate findings and recommendations to appropriate personnel. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Welding and fabrication experience, including structural repairs and component fabrication, preferred., • Experience in fleet maintenance, heavy equipment service, or trailer repair environments., • Experience working on flatbed trucks, dry vans, and semi-trailers., • Familiarity with electrical systems related to anti-lock braking and trailer lighting., • Ability to work with a variety of tools and equipment commonly used in trailer and heavy equipment maintenance., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality workmanship. The setting is hands-on and equipment-driven, with trailers such as flatbeds, dry vans, and semi-trailers routinely in the shop. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Westfield, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $41600.00 - $80000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
