    Full-time
    London

Overview We are hiring for a Waking night and day shift support worker / carer to join the lovely team around a 19 year young man who has epilepsy and PMLD, is non verbal and has additional health needs. He lives at home with his family and dog. We will need someone to take on both daytime hours as well as cover regular 2 waking night shifts per week. This is full time position (37.5 hours or more per week) for someone who has a strong interest in working with disabled and autistic people. You would ideally need some experience but the correct applicant we are also happy to train. Please let us know in your own words why you are interested or what experience you have. We need to cover the following waking nights: Sunday and Monday or Thursday and Friday. We would expect the new support worker also to take on occasional extra shifts when colleagues are away. The night supports are strictly waking nights. This is quite an active position - you would need to be really fit and strong and ideally not be too petite either as you would be working with a still growing teenager with a movement disorder. We would prefer someone who can work with a UTR number on a self-employed basis. But if you needed a PAYE because of Visa requirements we can connect you to a care agency who will employ the correct candidate for us. This is not a second job possibility (we would like to find someone who takes on this position as their only job). Training is mostly 2 months of shadowing. Probation is a minimum of 6 months. After probation the rate increases to £17 with a UTR number (PAYE is £15 through the agency). Starting Date: for training Asap. Availability needed also for bank holidays (paid at double rate). Importantly we need to find someone who can also support during some of the Christmas period and Easter. Ideally you live in North London or can easily commute. You would often work together with other team members to engage the young person in every day activities and to take him out into the community. But you would also need to often take on sole charge after training. About the young person He is a very friendly and active autistic young man / teenager. He is non verbal. He can walk short distances but only with a lot of support, otherwise he is in a wheelchair. He likes to go to the park, shopping, cafe and sometimes some planned activities all with a lot of support. He likes the swimming pool and special needs bike rides. His communication is mainly through pictures of reference and is taught with ABA principles. We will train you in behaviour therapy and would expect you to follow our training. There are regular team meetings and you would attend those meetings. He sometimes is also tired and unwell after a seizure or other illness and will then just need care and nurturing and patience. He also sometimes has hospital stays which requires a lot of patience. He needs a lot of physical support. He lives with his family and also a dog. About you You would need to be able to appreciate a person who has profound autism and treat him with dignity and kindness. You would be someone who has interest in special needs, psychology and perhaps nursing. You would perhaps have studied a related field or are planning to study a related field. This position is very different from working in a care home. You would be assisting him with everyday skills and activities as well as feeding, bathing and toileting. If you have experience with intermittent catheterisation, Peresteen as well as PEG feeding then that is an advantage but we can easily also train those skills too. (Please research all terms you are unsure about before you apply). When working a waking overnight shift you will need to make sure that he is safe and alert parents in case of a seizure. Before and after a waking night you need to be able to rest. During the day you need to engage hime both at home and in the community. This position also involves keeping his environment generally tidy and clean and help with his laundry. You should be responsible, cheerful, honest and very reliable, physically strong and healthy as he needs a lot of support. You will be trained by members of the team and the education consultant and be taught the principles of ABA - a behaviour therapy. You would need to be flexible and sometime cover for other people in the team if they are away on holidays or ill. You should • Be able to commit for minimum a year., • Invoice at the end of every month, • Able to work legally in the UK, • Only non smokers and non vapers apply., • Only people who are dog friendly apply., • Be able to speak English, • Be strong and fit, • Be able to swim and be in the water with the young person, • Be able to ride a bike, • Be based in London - ideally north London., • Apply with a cover letter (that explains your interest in this particular position and let us know your experience),, • send a recent CV with dates of education and work experience,, • lateron we need your enhanced DBS and relevant references We are based in Islington. Please reply explaining why you are interested (and please read full advertisement before and please write in your own words :). We look forward to hearing from you.

At Franco Manca, great pizza starts with great people. For over 15 years we've been making slow-risen sourdough pizza the way it should be: simple ingredients, proper craft and restaurants that feel part of their neighbourhood. We're not a People team sitting far away from the action. We're close to our restaurants, our managers and our teams, and this role is right at the heart of that. Why Franco Manca? We're proud of where we've come from and excited about where we're going. This is an opportunity to join a business with real heritage that's investing in its people, its restaurants and its future. If you enjoy working closely with people, balancing commercial thinking with empathy and making a real difference across a multi-site business, we'd love to hear from you. You'll love this role if · You like being close to the business and out with managers, not hidden behind a desk. · You enjoy coaching leaders, solving problems practically and seeing the difference your work makes. · You want exposure to senior leaders, people strategy and projects that shape how our teams grow. These shifts are from 20.00 - 09.00 sole charge (but with parents in house). These shifts are only sole charge after extensive training. These are strictly waking nights in the family home. More weekly hours are possible often but not less hours. This position could become a full time position after the summer or in Winter if this would suit you. After successful training the rate increases from £16 to £17 per hours. Per night shift: £221 after training. Bank holidays double rate. Ideally is a self-employed position with UTR number - no PAYE. About the young person who needs support: The young man needs someone to spot seizures or other health emergencies and if needed call the parents who are in the same house. The monitoring is with seizure video monitor and heart rate monitor and regular in person checks. These nights sometimes can be quite active - as if he has a seizure he might have to be accompanied via ambulance to A&E. Good written and spoken English is a must as you often would have to communicate with health professionals and write reports after each shift. All training is during the day first through shadowing. About you: This position will suit someone who ideally has already worked with autistic and disabled adults and has already experience. But it is very different from working in a care home. We would be able to train you in personal care, intermittent catheterisation, medication administration, peristeen (TAI) and positive behaviour support and other essential skills - if you are a suitable candidate. His environment will need to be kept clean and tidy (it is not a cleaner position but to ensure that his environment stays tidy, safe and fit for purpose). You will help with his laundry too. It would also involve sometimes to accompany on short holidays (in the UK) and cover at Christmas. We would prefer someone to work on a self-employed basis with a UTR number (not cash in hand). It is exactly 26 hours minimum per week. We hope to find someone who has specific interest in special needs. It is not a summer job but we hope to find someone to commit for a minimum of 12months. That's why we would prefer someone who has studied a health related subject or will study a related subject eg Psychology, nursing or similar. One would need to be strong and fit to support and keep safe someone with a movement disorder. The suitable applicant would be flexible and be able to take on extra shifts from time to time. You would often work together with other team members at the beginning or end of your shift (eg for bath time). Day shifts might available too on occasion if you are interested. This position could offer full time hours from the autumn. You should be responsible, cheerful, honest and very reliable and physically strong and healthy.
