Overview We are hiring for a Waking night and day shift support worker / carer to join the lovely team around a 19 year young man who has epilepsy and PMLD, is non verbal and has additional health needs. He lives at home with his family and dog. We will need someone to take on both daytime hours as well as cover regular 2 waking night shifts per week. This is full time position (37.5 hours or more per week) for someone who has a strong interest in working with disabled and autistic people. You would ideally need some experience but the correct applicant we are also happy to train. Please let us know in your own words why you are interested or what experience you have. We need to cover the following waking nights: Sunday and Monday or Thursday and Friday. We would expect the new support worker also to take on occasional extra shifts when colleagues are away. The night supports are strictly waking nights. This is quite an active position - you would need to be really fit and strong and ideally not be too petite either as you would be working with a still growing teenager with a movement disorder. We would prefer someone who can work with a UTR number on a self-employed basis. But if you needed a PAYE because of Visa requirements we can connect you to a care agency who will employ the correct candidate for us. This is not a second job possibility (we would like to find someone who takes on this position as their only job). Training is mostly 2 months of shadowing. Probation is a minimum of 6 months. After probation the rate increases to £17 with a UTR number (PAYE is £15 through the agency). Starting Date: for training Asap. Availability needed also for bank holidays (paid at double rate). Importantly we need to find someone who can also support during some of the Christmas period and Easter. Ideally you live in North London or can easily commute. You would often work together with other team members to engage the young person in every day activities and to take him out into the community. But you would also need to often take on sole charge after training. About the young person He is a very friendly and active autistic young man / teenager. He is non verbal. He can walk short distances but only with a lot of support, otherwise he is in a wheelchair. He likes to go to the park, shopping, cafe and sometimes some planned activities all with a lot of support. He likes the swimming pool and special needs bike rides. His communication is mainly through pictures of reference and is taught with ABA principles. We will train you in behaviour therapy and would expect you to follow our training. There are regular team meetings and you would attend those meetings. He sometimes is also tired and unwell after a seizure or other illness and will then just need care and nurturing and patience. He also sometimes has hospital stays which requires a lot of patience. He needs a lot of physical support. He lives with his family and also a dog. About you You would need to be able to appreciate a person who has profound autism and treat him with dignity and kindness. You would be someone who has interest in special needs, psychology and perhaps nursing. You would perhaps have studied a related field or are planning to study a related field. This position is very different from working in a care home. You would be assisting him with everyday skills and activities as well as feeding, bathing and toileting. If you have experience with intermittent catheterisation, Peresteen as well as PEG feeding then that is an advantage but we can easily also train those skills too. (Please research all terms you are unsure about before you apply). When working a waking overnight shift you will need to make sure that he is safe and alert parents in case of a seizure. Before and after a waking night you need to be able to rest. During the day you need to engage hime both at home and in the community. This position also involves keeping his environment generally tidy and clean and help with his laundry. You should be responsible, cheerful, honest and very reliable, physically strong and healthy as he needs a lot of support. You will be trained by members of the team and the education consultant and be taught the principles of ABA - a behaviour therapy. You would need to be flexible and sometime cover for other people in the team if they are away on holidays or ill. You should • Be able to commit for minimum a year., • Invoice at the end of every month, • Able to work legally in the UK, • Only non smokers and non vapers apply., • Only people who are dog friendly apply., • Be able to speak English, • Be strong and fit, • Be able to swim and be in the water with the young person, • Be able to ride a bike, • Be based in London - ideally north London., • Apply with a cover letter (that explains your interest in this particular position and let us know your experience),, • send a recent CV with dates of education and work experience,, • lateron we need your enhanced DBS and relevant references We are based in Islington. Please reply explaining why you are interested (and please read full advertisement before and please write in your own words :). We look forward to hearing from you.

Residential Childcare Worker (EBD experience essential) Ofsted-registered children's homes, London & Southeast SureShift is looking for experienced, reliable residential childcare workers to join our team, placed into Ofsted-regulated children's homes across London and the Southeast. This role requires genuine professional experience in a children's residential care setting, specifically supporting young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD). This means paid work in a registered children's home, secure unit, or comparable setting, where you've worked to a care plan, handled behaviour management or de-escalation, and worked as part of a shift team. It does not include babysitting, nannying, au pair work, playgroup or nursery assistant roles, or being a parent or family carer. If your experience is in one of these areas, this isn't the right role for you, but we'd encourage you to gain setting-based experience first and apply once you have it. However, we will consider if you can prove knowledge in this sector. You'll need: • At least six months' experience in a children's residential setting, with direct EBD exposure, • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or be happy to get one sorted), • The right to work in the UK, • A current safeguarding certificate When you apply, please tell us the name of the setting(s) where you gained this experience and roughly when. This helps us move you through faster. On shift, the home's own team leads the way, your job is to support brilliantly within their care plan, not to run things. In return, you get direct PAYE employment (no umbrella companies, no self-employed risk), pay starting at £13.50/hr and rising to £16.50/hr through our transparent Points System (reliability earns you more, not just time served), emergency cover shifts at £18/hr, and a real person to call when something goes wrong, not a call centre. Shifts are flexible, days, nights and weekends, book in around your own life, with no fixed weekly hours. If you take pride in being the person a home can count on, and you've already got the EBD experience behind you, we'd love to hear from you.
